In UAE visa language, 'A to A' and 'B to B' describe in-country status changes — switching from one visa to another without flying out and back. Done right, it saves money, time and stress. Done late, it means fines or a forced exit trip. Here's how it works.
A to A: Employment to Employment
You're on an employment visa and moving to a new employer. The old visa is cancelled, and the new company's entry permit is applied with an in-country status change — you keep living and working legally without leaving the UAE. Key requirement: your cancellation and new application must be coordinated so there's no gap.
B to B: Visit to Visit (and Visit to Residence)
Visitors who need more time — or who received a job offer during their visit — can often change status inside the country: from one visit visa to a new one, or from visit status to an employment or family residence visa. Eligibility rules shift with policy, which is why a current check matters before you rely on it.
The Timing Rules
- Start the process well before your current visa expires — last-minute changes risk fines
- Overstay days generate daily fines and complicate the new application
- The grace period after cancellation is not unlimited — know your exact dates
- Some cases still require an exit; a professional check tells you before you commit
